About Suzanne Wasson

Suzy spent her professional career teaching first grade and Drama at The Agnes Irwin School in Rosemont, PA for 28 years. Upon retirement, over twelve years ago,  she pursued her lifelong dream to study painting.

At the Wayne Art Center she has studied with Karen Fogarty, Michael Doyle, and Valerie Craig. Her work has appeared in several juried shows:  Penn, Radnor,  The Wayne Art Center Member Show, the Waterfall Gallery in Delaware, and in 2011 she was awarded the Purchase Prize by the Delaware Valley Art League.

Several of her paintings have been donated to silent auctions to raise money for outreach in the community and abroad.

For the past six years, Suzy has been involved in an after school program, Saint Augustine’s Academy, in Norristown for 2nd-4th grade girls. This volunteer program offers academic support, a full meal, and a focus on enrichment through the arts. Discovering their own creativity allows these children to build confidence and self esteem.  In 2009 Suzy published a book of poetry with pen and ink drawings, The World Around Us.  The proceeds raised enough money to send over forty students to summer art camp.  A portion of proceeds from any  sale of her paintings will go to SAA.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I chose oil because of the vibrancy of color and the ability to manipulate the medium to capture the essence of how I see  nature.  Being close to the sea has always been a place to restore my spirit, so seascapes are a favorite subject.  Every time I start a new painting, I marvel at the process, and find I learn something new.
